Optimum Nutrition Banana Cream was one of my 5 best optimum nutrition flavors. That was nearly a year ago though. And my opinion has changed. Slightly.
Banana Cream is a fantastic flavor.
It’s one I have no doubt in buying. Just by the name, you can already imagine how it tastes.
And in this Optimum Nutrition Banana Cream Review, you will find out exactly how it tastes in water, milk, with a banana, and peanut butter. All the things you’ll likely mix this with.
That way, you will be 100% confident in whether you want to buy this flavor.
But before I show you, a warning…
If you don’t love bananas, and I mean really love it, you want to exit this page now. Optimum Nutrition Banana Cream is as banana as you can get. And if you don’t (or don’t think you can) eat a banana everyday, this isn’t for you.
But if you’re someone who loves the taste of bananas, and can eat one (or even more) each day, keep reading…
Banana Cream Review: Water
When I first opened the container, I got a quick whiff of it. The banana was super strong and delightful. It didn’t smell so much artificial as it did a real banana. Think banana candy smell.
This had me excited.
I poured a scoop in my blender bottle with some water. Shook it up and it was incredibly easy to mix. No clumps, and no foaminess.
And the taste?
Surprising!
Each sip tasted pretty much exactly like the name says — it’s creamy, sweet, and tastes like a melted banana popsicle.
This far exceeded my expectations.
Although I had a pretty good idea of what it would be like, the creaminess is something that just does it for me.
And if it’s already creamy in water, how creamy would it be in milk?
Let’s find out…
Banana Cream Review: Milk
Mixing Banana Cream with milk is killer. If there’s any combination on this entire review that makes this flavor worth buying, it’s this.
In milk, Banana Cream is creamier, sweeter, and just unbeatable.
Truly a treat to come home to after a tough workout. And for people on a cut that need to cure their sugar cravings.
Banana Cream with milk is like drinking any banana milkshake. Except, with this, you don’t need a banana!
If I were to give you a real banana milkshake, and then Banana Cream with milk, you might prefer the protein shake over the actual one.
And for you Vanilla protein powder owners who mix it with milk and a banana to get that milkshake taste, stop wasting your money…
Just mix Banana cream with milk to get the same result.
But this doesn’t mean a banana is not needed. Or does it?
Banana Cream Review: Milk And Banana
If Banana Cream tastes wonderful in milk, it must taste even better with a banana right?
That’s what I thought too. But that didn’t turn out to be the case.
I blended up a scoop of powder, a cup of milk, and a regular sized banana.
Here’s how it taste…
Not that good. I don’t know why, but I think it just might be a bit TOO much banana for one to handle. To me, it almost didn’t taste like a banana anymore.
Again, I don’t know why. This doesn’t taste horrible though. Don’t get me wrong.
I can see how some people would enjoy it.
But for someone who even loves bananas like I do, it just didn’t taste “right”. Something was a bit off about it.
Again, Banana Cream with MILK ONLY is still my winner.
Let’s see how peanut butter compares though…
Banana Cream Review: Peanut Butter
Banana Cream with peanut butter is no surprise. I knew it would taste good.
After mixing it with water, a scoop of protein, and one serving of peanut butter, I couldn’t stop drinking it.
Although still not as good as Banana Cream with milk, this comes close.
Creamy, sweet, and well-balanced. When you drink this, you still get the banana taste from the protein powder. And you can taste the peanut butter as well.
If you’re having a hard time imagining what this will taste like, think of a banana and peanut butter sandwich. Only, of course, without the bread.
That’s basically what this is.
And if you love having that for breakfast, you’ll be even happier to replace this with it for an extra protein boost.
Banana Cream After A Few Weeks
Sad to say this, but I didn’t like Banana Cream the more I drank it.
By that, I only mean with water.
Mixed with anything else, it’s still amazing. But with water, it’s almost a bit disgusting to drink.
I get reminded of the taste of Pepto Bismol, only banana flavored. And that doesn’t mean it’s much of a good thing.
After two weeks or so, you might expect this to happen to you too.
But again, you shouldn’t completely put this flavor off because of this. Mix it with milk and you’ll fall right back in love with it.
Optimum Nutrition Banana Cream Review
Optimum Nutrition Banana Cream is an all-around great flavor.
Yes, it gets a bit bad as you drink it continuously. But if you mix it up with different things, you just can’t go wrong. And with a flavor like banana, there’s no end to what you can prepare this with.
In fact, this is one of the only protein powders that you can mix with other powders. Doing this almost gives you the same effect as adding a banana to your protein shake.
Would I buy this again? I would.
I have several flavors at the moment. And I almost always grab for this over my other ones.
Just keep in mind, drinking this with water every single day will get disgusting.
But if you’re like most people, you won’t be doing that. What I like to do is add it to cereal, oatmeal, or just mix it with milk.
