Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake is a game-changer. They outdid themselves with this one. And it might be what makes Optimum Nutrition one of the best brands out there.
Optimum Nutrition gets crazy when it comes to flavors. But in a good way.
I got this flavor a few weeks ago. And have been drinking it every day since.
And guess what?
I’ve enjoyed every second (and sip) of it.
So keep reading because you’re about to find out what Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake tastes like in water, milk, and with milk and a banana.
Let’s first start with water…
Birthday Cake Review: Water
When my container arrived, I busted it open quickly to pour a shake. And to my surprise, I found sprinkles.
Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake contains rainbow sprinkles
Now, if you’re like me, you might be thinking this is a stupid idea. But don’t be so quick to judge yet. This might change your mind…
I got my shaker bottle. Filled it up with a cup of water. Poured in a scoop. And took a sip. My thoughts?
This tastes like a birthday cake! Well that’s obvious, but I didn’t think they could pull it off. Just imagine your typical birthday cake… Vanilla-based cake on the inside, topped and coated with vanilla frosting, and showered with rainbow sprinkles.
That’s what you get with this protein powder.
Your first sip is a smooth, creamy vanilla. And then you get a small hint of the actual cake. But the best part of all, you get to nibble on a few sprinkles.
Drinking this almost makes me feel like a kid again. Luckily, Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake is all the sweetness without the sugar (only 2 grams).
To compare, I’ve had Optimum Nutrition French Vanilla Creme before. And if you ever tried and liked that one, the vanilla here is almost the exact same!
Birthday Cake Review: Milk
You can probably picture how good it already tastes. Considering milk is a main ingredient in baking cakes, how can this possibly go wrong.
With one scoop of whey, and one cup of milk, you couldn’t get any closer to the real thing.
This was a real treat. It’s definitely a shake you’ll enjoy after a workout. And you won’t feel guilty after either.
The only problem I ran into was it doesn’t mix too well.
You might get a few clumps here and there. Especially if you’re using a normal shaker bottle. It’s not a big deal though. But if you have a blender on hand, I recommend you use it for this.
Other than that, this is climbing up on my favorite Optimum Nutrition flavor list.
Birthday Cake Review: Milk And Banana
Not the greatest combination. But it works.
Like with real birthday cakes, there’s no banana in the recipe. And with this protein powder, I don’t think there should be either. They just don’t go well together.
However, it does add the a nice sweetness and thickness to it. But compared to mixing it with just milk or with just water, this doesn’t compare.
Now, this doesn’t mean it tastes disgusting. It tastes great. I could drink it all day if I wanted to too.
But it’s not your best option compared to with just milk or water.
Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake Cupcake Recipe
Although I haven’t tried this recipe myself, here’s one created by Optimum Nutrition you can use with this protein powder.
This is what you’ll need
- 1 scoop of Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup granulated Stevia sweetener
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup Plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
And for the frosting, you’ll need:
- 1 1/2 scoops Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake
- 16g sugar-free Jello Cheesecake Pudding Mix
- 4oz of fat-free cream cheese
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tsp zero calorie Stevia
- Sprinkles (optional)
To bake your cupcakes, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Combine the dry ingredients in one bowl, and the wet ingredients in a separate bowl. Once mixed, mix both of them together until it’s smooth. Then fill your cupcake pan and toss it in the oven for about 18 minutes.
To make your frosting, simply mix all the ingredients together until smooth. Then ice your cupcakes once they’re cooled down in the fridge.
Birthday Cake After A Few Weeks
This protein powder doesn’t get old.
Even though it’s not versatile at all (you can’t create many recipes with it), it still tastes great.
It doesn’t taste any better or worse. It’s still as delicious as the first time I took a sip.
Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake Review
Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake is their latest flavor as of today. It released for their 30th Anniversary. And they did an outstanding job.
As you can tell from above, this protein powder is best in water and milk.
Deliciously sweet, and to top it all off, filled with sprinkles, you can’t go wrong with this as an everyday protein shake.
When you get yours, I want you to have someone you know take a sip of it. Someone who drinks whey protein themselves. And just watch as their face lights up in joy.
As long as this is being sold (I’m not sure if it’s limited edition), I’ll be having a tub on me at all times.
