Chances are, you tried a regular chocolate protein shake before. You probably loved it. You probably hated it. But I’m sure we can agree that chocolate is one of the most boring and blandest flavors you can try.
There’s simply nothing special about it. And when it comes to protein shakes, that’s something you want to avoid. Instead, what you really want is a flavor that’s sweet to the tongue and tastes exactly like it says.
And if you tried several protein powders before, you know it’s hard to find one like that.
Most flavors taste dull. And some even disgusting.
This is especially the case for chocolate protein shakes.
It might even leave you wondering, “How can a flavor so simple, taste like trash?”
But don’t worry…
If you’re tired of those chocolate flavors that leave a bad taste in your mouth, no matter what you mix it with, then the one I’m about to show you will be one of the best chocolate protein powders you ever tasted, but only if you like coconut too.
And if you do, you might want to read this to the end because this will make you want to throw out your current tub of chocolate protein powder after just the first sip.
Here’s why…
Chocolate Coconut Review: Water
I first tried Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Coconut a few years ago. I can remember it like it was yesterday. It tasted that good.
When I bought it, I didn’t even read any reviews like you are right now.
I was in need of a protein powder, and when I saw this was one of the flavors, I didn’t hesitate for one second. I bought it on the spot.
Luckily, I made one of the best blind buys ever. And it has become one of my top 5 Best Optimum Nutrition Flavors.
Once I got my tub, I quickly rushed to make a shake with water (I didn’t even have breakfast yet).
Here’s how it tasted…
The chocolate is the first thing you get. Not a dark and bold chocolate, but a light yet a little sweet milk chocolate. Then comes along the coconut.
The coconut is the twist that makes this flavor one of the best chocolates I’ve ever tasted. It doesn’t have a strong coconut taste. And it doesn’t jump out at you. Not at all. It slowly creeps out and gives the flavor another dimension to it.
Although overall, it’s a bit watery and not too sweet, it’s silky smooth and doesn’t give off a bad aftertaste. And like almost every Optimum Nutrition flavor, this was very easy to mix. No chalkiness and no clumps.
Chocolate Coconut Review: Milk
What’s a protein shake without milk? I’ll answer that…
A boring one!
We all know protein powders taste better with milk. And with Chocolate Coconut, it’s the same story.
The milk gives the chocolate and the coconut a flare to it. Which was missing when mixed with water. Now, you can really taste the sweetness, creaminess, and richness pour out of this protein powder.
There’s literally nothing that can go wrong with this (unless you don’t like coconut).
If you’ve ever tried or heard about Optimum Nutrition Extreme Milk Chocolate – arguably the best chocolate protein powder ever – that is what the chocolate turns into. And because the chocolate tastes like milk chocolate, mixing it with milk was a no-brainer.
And let’s not forget about the coconut. The coconut is still in the picture, giving you a hint of the tropics. But still, it’s not that strong.
If there’s anything I can compare the taste of this to, it’s the candy Almond Joy.
Imagine taking a small bite into this (without the almond of course). And that is basically what you get with Chocolate Coconut.
If you do decide to buy yourself a tub of this protein powder, I urge you to try it with milk your first time. You’ll want to toss out your old protein powder in seconds.
Chocolate Coconut Review: Milk And Banana
Milk and banana… the classic way to turn a protein powder into a semi-dessert.
And that’s exactly what I did with Chocolate Coconut.
However, it isn’t the best thing ever.
And for one reason.
The coconut disappears.
What’s a protein powder if you can’t taste all of it? However, this doesn’t mean it tastes bad. It just turns into a chocolate banana milkshake instead. Which will be a savoir for someone who’s on a diet.
Here’s why…
If you’re on a diet and have a sweet tooth, you know how hard it is to satisfy it without shoving candy down your throat. Good news is this protein shake will cure it for good. Because what was missing when it was with water (sweetness), is now fixed with a banana.
Adding more texture, creaminess, and thickness to the shake, getting rid of your sugar craving for the day.
Chocolate Coconut After A Few Weeks
After a few weeks, Chocolate Coconut tastes no better or worse. It tastes the exact same.
Unlike most protein powders that gradually taste worse and worse the more you drink it. You know what I’m talking about.
That one protein powder that you’ve been drinking every day for several weeks, and suddenly, it’s able to also make you throw up.
Chocolate Coconut isn’t like that at all.
In fact, I look forward to drinking it every time. Especially after a workout. Just mix it with milk and you’re good to go.
Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Coconut Review
If you’re sick and tired of drinking the usual boring chocolate protein powders, this one will do you justice.
Not only are you getting a delicious chocolate, but also some coconut to give it just a bit more flavor.
It tastes great with just about anything.
Would I buy it again? Yes!
If a protein powder can taste good in just water, then it’s always worth buying again. And that’s the case with Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Coconut.
Overall, it’s one of the best flavors to come from them. And if you like both chocolate and coconut, you need to try this.
