Just when I thought Optimum Nutrition would run out of flavors, I stumbled upon this one.
Almost everyone loves Cookies And Cream. It’s a crowd favorite. And Optimum Nutrition isn’t the only one with this flavor. Many brands have it.
For those unfamiliar, Cookies And Cream is exactly what it sounds like:
- Vanilla Ice Cream and…
- Oreo Cookies
Before I dive in though, I must tell you. I’m a sucker for cookies and cream ice cream. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. I might favor it a bit too much.
But anyways, it’ll be my first time tasting it.
This was my first impression…
Cookies And Cream Review: Water
I first had it with a cold glass of water.
And to my surprise, it tasted similar to the actual Cookies and Cream ice cream. Not exactly like it though.
The initial sip was great. It knocked me back on my seat. Then, after that it was just OK. The flavor was not too sweet and not too overbearing.
What really surprised me though, were the “cookies.”
I wasn’t expecting this from Optimum Nutrition. They’re pretty simple. But I must say, it’s a great touch to give it that real Cookies And Cream taste and feel.
Whether they’re actual cookies or not, I don’t know. They do have that very small crunch to it though!
This was definitely different from any other protein flavor I’ve tried.
Overall, it’s very unique but not outstanding.
Cookies And Cream Review: Milk
Before trying this, I had high expectations. Why?
Think about it. How can Cookies And Cream not taste good in milk? Especially when it has a milky taste on its own.
And I guessed right!
Drinking this with a cup of milk is incredible.
It completely transformed the flavor.
Just imagine sipping a cookies and cream milkshake from your local store. Thick, creamy, and melts away in your mouth.
That’s what you get with this.
Cookies And Cream Review: Milk & Banana
Now, you might be thinking… A banana?
Since when did Cookies And Cream go with bananas?
Well you’re about to see right now. This might be one of the best protein shake combinations I ever tried.
I didn’t think this would taste good at first either. But for the review, I had to do it. And believe me, this tasted a lot better.
With just milk, it already tasted like a Cookies And Cream milkshake. But with a banana, it becomes one. It’s thicker, sweeter, and has that milkshake-like texture.
You won’t even be able to tell the difference between a real one and this one I just made.
Cookies And Cream Review: Peanut Butter
This one is also a weird combination. But it’s actually a thing. I found several dessert recipes combining cookies and cream with peanut butter. So this didn’t seem like such a bad idea.
I poured one scoop of protein powder and peanut butter into a cup of water.
How did it taste?
It was fine.
The peanut butter didn’t make it taste any better. Instead, it completely overpowered the Cookies And Cream.
You won’t taste anything but peanut butter. It wasn’t nasty. But it wasn’t good either.
It does taste better than it does with just water though.
Cookies And Cream Protein Shake Recipe
With this flavor, I thought I’d add in a little twist to make this shake taste EVEN BETTER.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Optimum Nutrition Cookies And Cream (of course)
- Cup of milk
- 2 Oreo cookies
Combining these two gives you the ultimate cookies and cream flavor you’re truly looking for. As well as that thick consistency.
Blend them altogether and this is what you’ll get…
Whether you’re concerned or not about the calories, you don’t have to worry about that.
This shake is only about 450 calories and is packed with protein.
Plus, you get to add a bit of sweets into your diet without going overboard.
So if you want to buy this protein powder, don’t forget to give this a try. But beware, you might find yourself making this shake every day.
Cookies And Cream After a Few Weeks
After a few weeks of this Cookies And Cream flavor, I didn’t like it anymore. Why?
Because it didn’t taste anything like it did the first time. It almost tasted like salt water or water from a lake.
The taste became unbearable, but it was only with the first sip. After that, it tasted how it always does.
Good news is, this is only true with water.
With milk, peanut butter, and a banana, there’s just no getting tired of it.
Optimum Nutrition Cookies And Cream Review
The taste is not very consistent. Only the first two weeks or so.
It’s not a bad flavor.
But would I buy it again? Probably not.
There are other Optimum Nutrition flavors I prefer over this one.
My only problem is that it needs to be mixed with a banana or milk to be drinkable. And in order for me to buy this again, it needs to taste great with only water.
However, if you drink this with milk and a banana, you will absolutely be hooked. In fact, I urge you to buy this just because of how good it tastes with those two. Especially if you are a Cookies And Cream fan.
You’ll be amazed how similar it tastes to the real thing.

You should try mixing your protein powders with 8 to 16 oz of unsweetened almond milk and 1 ounce of heavy cream. It is absolutely outstanding and is low in carbs. The best almond milk, IMHO, is Almond Breeze. Silk almond milk is absolutely horrid, but I’ve heard their cashew milk is good.

They recently changed the recipe for this variety. The cookie pieces are very small now and so it doesn’t have the same mouthfeel as the original recipe, which used larger cookie pieces. But you can always crumble one or two Oreo or Hydrox chocolate cookies into your shake. It’s much better that way.
